Businesses urged to strengthen cyber security practices

A new report from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has revealed the true extent to which cyber attacks are rising.

The report has outlined that almost one in three businesses (31%) and a quarter (26%) of charities now experience breaches or attacks at least once a week.

As a result, the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) is urging businesses and charities to strengthen their cyber security practices and to follow simple steps in its guidance to reduce the risk of falling victim to an attack.

Cyber Minister Julia Lopez has spoken on the matter, saying: “It is vital that every organisation take cyber security seriously as more and more business is done online, and we live in a time of increasing cyber risk.

“No matter how big or small your organisation is, you need to take steps to improve digital resilience now and follow the free government advice to help keep us all safe online.”

On a more positive note, the report has shown an increase in cyber awareness from senior managers, with four out of five (82%) now seeing cyber security as a ‘very high’ or ‘fairly high’ priority up from 77% in 2021.
