NBCC launches national Safer Business Action Week to target business crime

Following the first successful national week of action organised by the The National Business Crime Centre (NBCC) last year, a newly branded Safer Business Action Week is taking place this week (w/c October 16) with police and partners - including the EMCRC - across the country joining together to tackle business crime in their communities.

The Safer Business Action Week has begun, and it involves Business Reductions Partnerships (BCRPs), Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) and the private security industry working with local police forces and CRCs to deliver a focused operation with joint patrols, the targeted intervention of offenders and a range of crime prevention activity including raising awareness of the local issues with the general public.

Supt Patrick Holdaway, lead for the NBCC said:

“The week of action is coordinated nationally but it very much focused on local crime and ASB issues impacting retail and other businesses in the community.
"It is as much about engaging with businesses and the public as it is about identifying and catching prolific offenders. Last year’s week of action saw some fantastic results in targeting those who cause the most harm to businesses and also in building ongoing relationships between business, partners and the police.”

Protecting local businesses is a real focus of ours, and our successful community outreach campaign in Derbyshire this summer - in which we spoke to hundreds of businesses across the county about their cyber security measures – highlights that focus, and it’s exactly why we want as many businesses as possible to download our free Information Pack so they’re better protected against the online side of business crime.

The NBCC are also encouraging businesses trading on high streets and in town centres to get involved and display the ShopKind messaging in their stores. All the ShopKind materials are free to down here.

Edward Woodall, ShopKind campaign co-ordinator said:

“We encourage all businesses to get behind the national week of action and share messages with their customers and colleagues about ShopKind”.

Look out for further posts on social media this week on Safer Business Action Week.
