Leicestershire Police have confirmed that a 29-year-old IT technician has been sentenced after pleading guilty to two counts of computer misuse last year.

Adam Georgeson appeared at Leicester Crown Court on Friday, February 11, where he was sentenced to 21 months’ imprisonment.

In October last year, at the same court, he admitted two counts of unauthorised acts with intent to impair operation of or prevent/hinder access to a computer.

One charge related to an incident in January 2021, where he gained access to the IT system of a school in Market Harborough, where he previously worked.

In March, Georgeson - of Robin Lane in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire - then made malicious and unauthorised actions to the system of an IT firm - where he had also previously been employed.

Detective Constable Anthony Jones, from the cyber crime team within Leicestershire Police's Digital Hub, said:

“Georgeson accessed the IT systems of both his former employers because he resented the fact he had lost both jobs.
“When he realised his actions could be traced, he went even further and his actions became even more damaging.
“I’m pleased that he has been sentenced for his actions and hope he takes time to reflect on the severity of his crimes. I also hope this case serves as an example to our communities that our dedicated team within the Digital Hub takes reports of crime extremely seriously and will work to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
“If you, or anyone you know, have been a victim of such a crime then please let us know. Together we can bring people to justice.”
