A 20-year-old Hampshire man is due before magistrates charged with offences under the Treason Act after an alleged incursion at Windsor Castle in Berkshire on Christmas day last year.
The suspect is named as Jaswant Singh Chail, from Southampton, who was charged on August 2 with threatening to kill, possession of an offensive weapon and an offence under the Treason Act.
His arrest is the result of an investigation by the Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command and is currently in custody ahead of his initial court appearance before Westminster magistrates on August 17.
Officers from Thames Valley Police (TVP) and the Metropolitan Police responded to a security breach about 8.30am on Christmas Day.
At the time it was reported that security controllers monitoring CCTV picked up images of a man allegedly in the grounds.
The Queen spent Christmas Day at Windsor Castle and was expected to have lunch with the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, and the Earl and Countess of Wessex.
It is thought that Prince Charles, Camilla, Prince Edward and Sophie, along with their children Lady Louise and James, Viscount Severn, attended a church service in St George’s Chapel, in the castle grounds, on Christmas morning.
