A police and crime commissioner (PCC) and the president of the Police Superintendents’ Association will be joining the College of Policing.

Lincolnshire PCC Marc Jones and Ch Spt Paul Fotheringham, will be non-executive directors on the board.

The new positions were announced confirmed by Home Secretary Suella Braverman earlier this week and they will both officially begin their duties in 2023.

Fotheringham, who earned respect in several high profile roles at Kent Police, said he hoped to provide “insight and experience of superintendents to positively shape its strategy, values and direction”.

The college said that as non-executive directors on the board, both Mr Jones and Chief Supt Fotheringham will be involved in “ensuring the strategic direction and values of the college are aligned with meeting our obligations to the public of setting standards, providing training and sharing good practice across policing”.

College chair, Lord Herbert of South Downs, said: “I am delighted that Marc and Paul will be joining the college board.

“PCCs play a vital role in the policing system and I am pleased that Marc will be working with us as we develop and enhance the work we do with commissioners across the country.

“The experience and knowledge of policing that Paul brings will be crucial to our work to boost professionalism, drive consistency and improve leadership.

“These appointments will strengthen the college and I am looking forward to welcoming our new members to the board.”
