The BBC has been carrying out a survey of frontline security staff to gauge the level of abuse from the public.

The corporation, supported by the Night Time Industries Association (NTIA), has been asking personnel to answer an online survey.

An advertisement says that the BBC would “like to shine a light” on problems faced by door staff.

The ad states: “BBC News is interested in doing a report on the abuse that door security staff face by members of the public whilst on shift.

“Supported by the Night Time Industries Association, they recognise that this is a sector that has largely been underreported on and as a result, would like to shine a light on this crucial sector.

“In order to form data for the piece, a BBC News team would like workers to fill out a really easy and short online questionnaire. You will be anonymous when you answer the survey, and there’s also an option at the end to share further details about your experienced abuse.

“This will not name any venues or spaces, just experiences and regularity, but will go a long way to protecting door security and the potential for legislation to align this workforce with NHS workers in terms of assaults and abuse.”
