Security guarding company, Swindon-based SSGC, has completely offset its carbon emissions in 2023.

It has done this as part of its commitment to acquiring ISO14001 accreditation.

The firm has teamed up with facilities management specialists, EMCOR UK, to plant 240 trees in honour of veteran’s charity, Mission Motorsport, to offset the carbon emissions.

Mantra
Mission Motorspor helps armed forces veterans and service personnel who have been affected by their service reintegrate into society through its ‘race, retrain, recover’ mantra.

The pledge from SSGC further underlines the company’s commitment to both the environment and veterans, for which it has earned a Gold award from the Ministry of Defence’s Employer Recognition Scheme.

SSGC has partnered with international reforestation platform Tree-Nation to plant the trees in Madagascar and Tanzania.

Tree-Nation calculates that each tree is able to offset 800kg of CO2 over the course of its lifetime, or approximately 40kg per year for 20 years.

Long-term support
David Stubbs, CEO of SSGC and a former military police officer, is a long-term supporter of Mission Motorsport and regularly takes part in events to raise money for the organisation.

He said: “Mission Motorsport relies on the generous donations of its partners and supporters to fund its vital work, so it has limited resources available to make its activities more environmentally friendly.

“At SSGC, we are committed to providing long-term financial support to the charity, but we also want to play our part in supporting Mission Motorsport with reducing its environmental impact.

“As an organisation, we are working towards offsetting our carbon emissions and are delighted to be working closely with EMCOR UK to support Mission Motorsport in offsetting its own emissions.”
