Ukraine premier Volodymyr Zelenskyy has met Rishi Sunak at Chequers this where the PM promised attack drones ahead of an expected Spring offensive.
The hero President hugged Mr Sunak as he arrived at the grand 16th century estate by a tropp-carrying Chinook helicopter.
The PM pledged to send long-range missiles and hundreds of new long-range attack drones, with a 200km reach, to Ukraine.
Mr Zelenskyy said jets are a “very important topic for us because we can’t control the sky”.
He added: “I think you will hear important decisions in the closest time, but we have to work a bit more.”
The PM promised to train up Ukrainian pilots to use Western fighter jets “soon” and the leaders discussed “long-term” security arrangements from allied countries for Ukraine.
It was the first stop on Mr Zelenskyy’s European tour to appeal for increased support from his allies.
Putin’s Russian forces are expected to recommence a full-scale assault now the worst of the winter and spring weather has passed.
Mr Sunak said: “We will be training Ukrainian citizens to be absolutely combat-ready aircraft pilots and particularly whether it comes to Nato tactics as well, because that’s an important part of the long-term relationship between our countries.
“So we’ve had very good productive discussions on that today. Other countries are involved, I’m talking to those leaders.
“I’ll be doing more of that this week in my international engagement and we’re very keen to build that coalition of countries to give Volodymyr and his people the aircraft support that they need.”
