It is a common misconception that because the construction industry doesn't regularly deal with personal data that it is not a target for cyber criminals. But unfortunately, this is not the case.
The construction sector holds information that many hackers would consider valuable, such as customer information and sensitive business details. Pairing this with the fact that only 41% of construction firms have carried out one or more cyber risk identification activities in the last year, the lowest ranking industry analysed in the Cyber Security Breaches Survey 2022, shows that there is still progress to be made within the industry.
A vulnerability assessment is a systematic review of security weaknesses in an information system. It evaluates if the system is susceptible to any known vulnerabilities, assigns severity levels to those vulnerabilities, and recommends remediation or mitigation when needed.
By running a scan against the entire system, the most common weaknesses that hackers would exploit during an attack are identified and can be remediated, ideally preventing a future breach from occurring.
