Bluecube Technology Solutions (Bluecube) appoints former Royal Navy Commodore Richard Winter Chief Cyber Officer.

IT managed services provider, Bluecube has announced the appointment of former Royal Navy Commodore Richard Winter as its Chief Cyber Officer.

Bluecube makes new cyber security proposition

With more than 20 years of relevant experience, Richard will lead and grow Bluecube’s new cyber security proposition, helping its growing roster of clients improve their digital defences.

Bluecube has said that his expertise will deliver enhanced cyber security to a market which is currently underserved, such as legal chambers, not-for-profits, and SME businesses.

Before joining Bluecube, Richard led UK MoD work on its cyber operating model and the network and security operations centre at Defence Digital, including through the COVID-19 pandemic. He successfully pursued a cyber-resilience strategy that married a generational refresh of cybersecurity tooling with organisational innovation to mitigate the attack surface expansion caused by remote working at large scale.

In former roles, Richard played a pivotal part in driving forward innovation within MoD, from its first computer network defence project in the early 2000s, to leading a study team to write MoD’s cyber operating concept last year.

On joining Bluecube, Richard Winter said: “Effective cyber security genuinely requires a whole of society approach. Bluecube is a new challenge for me, and I’m excited to help build a compelling cyber defence proposition for its small and medium sized enterprise customers, a sector which has been historically underserved but powers so much of our national prosperity.

“I’m equally looking forward to cultivating the next generation of talent and will be launching Bluecube’s first cyber security apprenticeship later this year, supporting the training opportunities needed to build our national skillset.”

James Hawker, CEO of Bluecube Technology Solutions, added: “Cyber resilience is non-negotiable. Richard’s valued expertise opens a huge wealth of knowledge to our customers and will help them adapt and grow in today’s increasingly digital-first world. I’m delighted to welcome Richard to the Bluecube fold. And I’m excited for what we can deliver for SMEs as a collective force.”
