Securiscape fits 48 Securipods at Betfred St Leger festival.

Derbyshire security products suppliers Securiscape added another event to its growing list of 2023 engagements when it installed its temporary defences at Doncaster’s Betfred St Leger festival.

The company, based in Ashbourne, fitted 48 of its Securipods outside Doncaster Racecourse for the four-day duration of the racing festival, which took place last month.

The event attracts around 50,000 people, who were greeted by two separate rows of Securipods, which are designed to foil vehicle-borne attacks on people gathering in public spaces.

Securiscape Securipods can be seen all over UK

Launched in 2017, Securipods are capable of bringing a vehicle as big as an 18-tonne truck to a controlled and complete halt without using heavy concrete or inserting bolts into the road surface but without impeding the progress of pedestrians and cyclists.

Mark Stone, Managing Director of Securiscape, said: “Our SecuriPods have been seen all over the country, but this was the first time we’d been asked to install them for the Betfred St Leger Festival.

“They’re designed to be light and portable and although we took every pod we possess, they all fitted on the back of a single HGV while we drove up in our pickup separately with our forklift in tow.

“Things couldn’t have gone smoother and it’s great to know that people of Doncaster could enjoy their festival and wear their finest outfits in total peace of mind.”

SecuriPods are one of a number of innovations Securiscape has brought to market over the past number of years, including reinforced street planters, blast-resistant litter bins, Glide Bollards and its IWA-14-rated pedestrian guardrails, which are designed to stop vehicles from mounting pavements and were developed in the wake of the London Bridge attack in 2017.

Securiscape’s Securipods were also deployed outside the Rothesay Open Nottingham tennis tournament in June and at the recent Derby Festé event in Derby, where they were used to close off the city’s Exeter Bridge to traffic to make way for a street performer.
