Employees at Paxton, a Sussex-based security technology manufacturer, teamed up to raise £9,060 last year for Teenage Cancer Trust’s nursing support in Brighton.

Each year people at Paxton vote for a charity to support as their Charity of the Year and fundraise for them through a variety of company charity activities.

“Supporting local charities is really important to our teams as we feel that giving back to our community contributes to improving the lives of those we support,” said Kate Hotson, Paxton’s Project and Events Manager.

“It gives our employees a sense of achievement when fundraising together as a team and educates us all about the work our local charities do and the positive impact they have.

“A huge thank you to all our teams for the fundraising efforts throughout the year. Knowing that the money goes directly towards nursing support for young people in our local community and helps make a difference motivates us for more future charity initiatives.”

How Paxton makes a difference

Members of the Paxton team also took part in the Race to the King marathon in Goodwood as part of the fundraising efforts.

Helen Farquharson, Senior Relationship Manager for the South and South East at Teenage Cancer Trust, said: “The whole Paxton team has gone above and beyond with their efforts and we are delighted they’ve raised such an incredible amount to support the vital work of Teenage Cancer Trust.

“The money raised means that we can continue to fund an expert nurse to support young people with cancer in Brighton.

“The nurse is there to support young people with cancer through treatment, helping them cope with anxiety, isolation and connecting them to a network of other young people to chat to.”

“No teenager or young adult should ever have to face cancer alone. This support from Paxton will make a huge difference to young people with cancer in Sussex.”

Teenage Cancer Trust is understood to be the only UK charity that provides specialised nursing care and support for young people with cancer.

It funds nurses, youth workers and hospital units in the NHS, so young people have dedicated staff and facilities to support them.
