The Cyber Resilience Centre for Wales (WCRC) and global technology leader Thales have joined forces to support decision makers and small business managers with cybersecurity.

Their event*, ‘Incident response – The dos and don’ts when your business falls victim to a cyber-attack’ is set to offer attendees the opportunity to be taken through a realistic scenario frequently experienced by businesses with the aim to help them prepare themselves for a successful attack, with easy-to-understand explanations and terminology.

The exercise will be created and run by Bridewell which specialises in end-to-end cyber security and is a National Cyber Security Centre-assured provider of cyber incident exercising.

The exercise will be followed with a panel discussion which will break down the stages of the attack using easy to understand terminology and identify key decisions and also the support available in these circumstances.

The panel includes representatives from Capital Law, the Information Commissioners Office (ICO), Thomas Carroll Insurance Brokers, Gwent Police Cybercrime Unit and Bridewell Incident Response team, covering a variety of sectors such as legal, law enforcement and insurance to explore the different aspects of an attack and what the consequences can mean for a business.

WCRC Director, Detective Superintendent Paul Peters, says:

“This is the second time we have run an event such as this and we believe there is a real appetite for it. Understanding the full impact a cyber-attack can have on your company and seeing it in ‘real-life’ terms is such an effective method of ensuring you are prepared. This is a hands-on approach that helps businesses explore and evaluate their response to a cyber-attack, aimed at decision makers, and non-technical managers, and those attending will go away equipped with all the right tools to implement into their own incident response strategy.

“We are very happy to host this important event at our Ebbw Vale campus. On the site is located the Thales UK CNI Cyber Resilience Lab, which is dedicated to helping Operators of Essential Services test, train and exercise the cybersecurity of their operational technology on both physical and virtual cyber ranges. By utilising the facilities, organisations can understand the resilience of their solutions to attack as well as ensure that their procedures and staff are ready to respond optimally to any incident.”
