When looking for things to explore in Freeport, MaineMany individuals are interested in shopping at the Freeport outlets. They also wish to visit the flagship L.L. Bean store and pose for a photo next to the large boot. However, that is material for a different article.

To be truthful, Freeport doesn’t offer as many outlet stores as Kittery does. That said, the ones it does have are worth noting. Mainly, you’ll come across clothing outlet stores here.

Freeport Maine Outlet Stores

Unlike Kittery, the outlet storesIn Freeport, they are not located in a strip mall. In fact, you will discover them spread out throughout the downtown area, along Main Street.

However, you’ll discover the largest collection of outlet stores at the Freeport Village Station. Therefore, I have categorized outlet shopping into these two main areas—Main Street in downtown Freeport, and Freeport Village Station.

Main Street, Downtown Freeport

Not all stores on Main Street in Freeport are genuine outlets or factory stores. Additionally, not every retailer uses the terms “outlet” or “factory store” in its name.

Furthermore, I am categorizing stores under the “Main Street” section. However, some of them are located slightly off Main Street on a side street, like Bow Street.

Main Street stores in Freeport, Maine

Here is an alphabetical list of the retailers that have locations on and near Main Street in Freeport. Thisnotinclude stores located in Freeport Village Station.

  • Banana Republic Factory Store
  • The Cosmetics Company Store
  • American Eagle/Aerie
  • Gap Factory Store
  • J. Crew Factory
  • Jockey
  • Levi’s Outlet Store
  • The North Face Outlet
  • Orvis Outlet
  • Polo Ralph Lauren Outlet Store
  • Sperry
  • Under Armour Factory House
  • Vineyard Vines

Several of these Freeport stores on Main Street aredog-friendly stores. Simply find the paw print in the window.

Freeport Village Station

Freeport Village Station began operating in 2009 atop a parking structure constructed by the town to serve visitors. It also features public restrooms and a cinema known as the Nordica Theatre. Admission to the parking area is free.

You will notice signs for the Nordica Theatre as you enter Freeport Village Station from Main Street. However, the real entrance to the theater is located on the Depot Street side of Freeport Village Station, at ground level.

The entire structure was essentially integrated into a hill.

Depot Street offers access to the Downeaster Train, which travels north toward Brunswick or south toward Portland, passing through various towns along the route to Boston.

There are several methods to access Freeport Village Station. First, enter from Main Street. Second, through the parking garage. Third, by climbing a set of stairs from either Mill Street or Bow Street.

Secondhand stores in Freeport, Maine

In my article about shopping at Goodwill stores in Maine, I offer my advice on consistently focusing on thrift and consignment stores located in more affluent neighborhoods. These places often have premium items available at significantly reduced costs.

In this sense, Freeport, Maine, lives up to expectations. Indeed, I discovered three thrift shops located in the heart of downtown Freeport and one situated just outside the town.

I understand these aren’t exactly outlet stores. Still, you could potentially discover some excellent deals.

Freeport Community Services Donation Store, 53 Depot Street, Freeport

Main Street is parallel to Depot Street in the city center. This second-hand shop offers items such as clothing, jewelry, household goods, and furniture, among other things. Additionally, it provides ample free parking space.

Gypsy Rags, 27 Bow Street, Freeport

You can discover a wide range of well-known clothing brands at Gypsy Rags, a secondhand store located close to the CVS in Freeport. Recently, the shop featured garments from Anthropologie, Talbot’s, and Zara on theGypsy Rags Facebook page.

Haberdashery Resale Clothing, 114 Main Street, Freeport

There are two Haberdashery Resale Clothing locations in Southern Maine. The first is the store in Freeport, and the second is a location in Old Port in Portland.

A haberdashery refers to itself as slow fashion. This is the opposite of fast fashion, which involves purchasing and discarding trendy items rapidly. If maintaining an eco-friendly wardrobe is a priority for you, then shopping at a store such as Haberdashery Resale Clothing is logical.

Sweet Repeats Children’s Consignment Shop, 554 US 1, Freeport

You must travel outside of downtown Freeport, following Route 1, to get to Sweet Repeats Children’s Consignment Shop. This is a second-hand and resale store that focuses on children’s clothing, ranging from newborn sizes up to children’s size 16.

Some of the brands available at the store are:

  • Baby Gap
  • Hanna Andersson
  • L.L. Bean (of course)
  • Patagonia

Of course, due to the nature of consignment, the brands are always changing. However, you can still expect to see well-known names, as the owners carefully select what they accept for consignment.

If you can’t find what you’re searching for at an outlet store, be sure to visit a thrift store instead.

Last impressions of shopping at Freeport Maine outlets

Shopping mall stores in Freeport can, in certain cases, involve entering and exiting charming, historic buildings. For instance, consider where the Banana Republic Factory store is situated?

In general, shopping in Freeport is a delightful and enjoyable way to spend the afternoon.

Lastly, two quick tips. First, aim to arrive in Freeport during the middle of the week. You’ll encounter smaller crowds.

Secondly, monitor the weather. On inclement days in Maine, particularly during the summer, individuals tend to go shopping. Wait for the weather to improve before traveling to Freeport.

During our previous visit to Freeport, we arrived on a summer Wednesday, following several days of rain. As everyone was enjoying the favorable weather for the first time to head to the beach, the town was nearly deserted.

Here are some additional events happening in Freeport over the next week or so.
