JD Vance Targets Joy Reid Over Gratitude, Backfires Immediately

Former MSNBC host Joy Reid unloaded on Vice President JD VanceThis week, following his public criticism of her on social media on Thursday, where he claimed she showed no appreciation for the good life she enjoys in the United States, Reid retaliated with a vulgar response, accusing Vance of intentionally singling her out in an environment filled with aggressive speech and political hostility.

The intense online clash has reignited discussion about whether public figures should remain calm and show more self-control—especially in today’s highly charged political environment.

Alternatively, Vance publicly criticized Reid through a video clip featuring a previous interview Reid conducted with ABC News reporter Steve Osunsami regarding the surprise her parents experienced when they first arrived in America.

“My father came from the Congo and my mother from Guyana, so they were immigrants who intentionally came here and faced a harsh reality. My mother experienced this awakening, saying, ‘Oh, it’s racist here.’ She joked, ‘They didn’t tell me this was the land of opportunity, but not for me,’ ” Reid said with a laugh.

For reasons that remain unclear, Thursday, Vance suddenly replayed the old clip, stating, “Joy Reid has had a very good life in this country. It has been largely generous and welcoming to her. She is much wealthier than most. Still, she exudes disdain. My genuine, non-malicious advice to Joy Reid is that you would be a lot happier if you showed some appreciation.”

The post also emphasized Reid’s high salary at MSNBC, contrasting it with the average income in Guyana, sparking a wave of profanity, racist images, and conservative criticism directed at Reid in the comments.

“Joy Reid weeping over ‘no opportunities in America’ while earning $3 million annually to sit on TV and stir up racial tensions is the epitome of absurdity. Her mother fled Guyana, where the average individual survives on just $5,000 per year, and now her daughter is making a fortune promoting a false sense of victimhood. That’s not oppression—it’s the American dream gone wild,” one person wrote.

If this nation were even remotely as racist and bleak as she claims, Joy Reid would still be in Georgetown cooking rice over a fire, not receiving checks from MSNBC. She’s evidence that America is the land of opportunity — yet complaining because the scam brings more money than gratitude.

Numerous voices criticized Reid for “playing the race card” and failing to present a balanced view of the positive aspects America has offered her.

Most of the negative reaction seemed to originate from white men — a pattern that mirrored the issue Reid had highlighted in the initial interview. Her remarks regarding her mother’s first experiences with racism in America, which Vance included in his post, appeared to provoke the same hostility she had discussed.

The main topic in the comments was a request for Reid to “return to Guyana.”

If it’s that bad, she can easily purchase a ticket, as planes operate daily. With a $3 million salary, she should be able to do that… considering she’s supposedly oppressed and restricted here, along with that $3 million to keep speaking out.

The vice president’s statement spread rapidly online, accumulating over 3 million views.

However, Reid, who no longer utilizes X, found out about the attack only when journalist Tommy Christopher informed her during a Substack interview.

Reid responded sharply: “JD Vance, since you’re listening: F— you!”

She explicitly stated she had no desire to receive guidance from the vice president.

“There’s nothing you could ever say that I would consider as guidance, whether it’s friendly or not. I don’t require advice from you. You need to learn how to be a respectful person and you should apologize to Kamala Harris for your comments,” she added.

Reid also challenged Vance’s take on her previous interview, explaining that her mother’s comment focused on the real experiences of Black immigrants in America.

I didn’t claim that my mother said this country wasn’t a land of opportunity for people like us. You should go back and listen to the interview,” Reid stated. “My mother arrived in this country as an immigrant and believed in the promise of what America presents itself as—a land of opportunity. However, the reality is that if you are Black, it doesn’t take long before you are treated the same way that America treats all its Black citizens, as second-class citizens.

Reid claimed that Vance’s attitude demonstrated racial bias.

See, in your statement, you leave out the part where you yourself believe that white people earn their opportunities, that they create them, and that when they land a good job, a large house, or a high salary, it’s because they’ve worked for it. You, because you’re a racist jerk, think that Black people receive opportunities from white people.

In a series of comments later shared on Threads, Reid expanded, stating that she felt Vance’s behavior towards her was reckless and hazardous:

Waking up early and coming to terms with the fact that the Vice President of the United States intentionally placed a target on you for no apparent reason, aware of how violent and extreme the armed MAGA supporters are, is something…

Reid presented her answer as both individual and ideological.

Well, I’m proud to be the daughter of Black immigrants. The best decision my mother ever made was bringing me into this country as a Black American, even during the final stages of its apartheid period. The current administration’s actions of targeting, brutalizing, threatening, and seizing nonwhite immigrants based solely on their skin color are truly evil. That’s it. If expressing this is what led Captain Couch to focus on me, then so be it. God remains God.
