WASHINGTON – The federal government shutdown entered its 10th day on Friday, following the previous day’s actions by senators.voted downseventh time of conflicting financial legislation

With neither side moving from their stance, it seems more and more probable that the shutdown will extend into the weekend and the following week.

The Senate rejected a Republican-supported bill to finance the government until November 21 on Thursday, with a vote of 54-45, which did not meet the 60 votes required to overcome a Democratic filibuster. Democrats are still insisting that modifications to health care policy be incorporated into any funding legislation.

President Donald Trumpintensified his warnings to eliminate what he referred to as “Democrat initiatives” from the government if the shutdown continues.

We’re going to be eliminating some highly popular Democratic programs that don’t appeal to Republicans, quite honestly, because that’s how this operates,” President Trump stated. “They wanted to do this, so we’ll offer them a small dose of their own medicine.

Trump is set to visit the Middle East on Sunday to commemorate the agreement between Israel and Hamas. It remains unknown how long his stay will last.

Can I enroll in ACA coverage while the government is closed?

In almost all states, the time to purchase insurance via the Affordable Care Act marketplaces starts on November 1st. Idaho is the exception, with open enrollment beginning on October 15th.

Insurance exchanges are managed by the states and remain open. Therefore, enrollment can proceed as scheduled if the government is still closed on those days.

Every state offers consumer assistance programs designed to address concerns from anxious customers, stated Jon Godfread, president of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners and also the insurance commissioner of North Dakota.

One of the advantages of the state-run system,” he stated, “is that we are not currently closed. We will continue to be at work and provide assistance to individuals. All state insurance departments remain open today.

Will health insurance costs rise during the government shutdown?

No. The shutdown is not causing an increase in the premiums charged on the Affordable Care Act health insurance marketplaces.

The question may have arisen because Congress is debating whether to continue the increased premium subsidies that were introduced during the pandemic. These enhancements provided additional financial support to individuals who were already buying insurance through the marketplace and also broadened eligibility to include more middle-income individuals. The enhanced subsidies are set to expire on December 31, and without them, many people could experience a significant increase in their premiums, potentially doubling or tripling.

Democrats are pushing for the continuation of increased premiums on a permanent basis. Republicans argue that Congress should not address this issue while the government is closed.

No further votes are anticipated for reopening the government until at least October 14.

On October 9, senators cast their votes on two bills aimed at financing the government, but both measures were rejected for the seventh consecutive time. The Senate will hold a ceremonial session on October 10 with no official agenda, after which it will be closed until the 14th.

Some federal employees will start experiencing delayed paychecks today. Approximately 1.3 million active-duty military members could face missed paychecks on October 15 if funding is not reinstated by that date.

Trump refuses to pledge continuation of health care subsidies

After showing willingness recently this weekIn a deal with Democrats to extend healthcare subsidies, Trump is now opposing the matter.

Members of the Democratic party in Congress are insisting that the continuation of healthcare subsidies be part of any legislation aimed at restarting the government – a proposal that Republican lawmakers have declined to consider until the shutdown concludes.

At a Thursday Cabinet meeting, Trump claimed that Democrats are using healthcare expenses “as a weapon” and stated that Republicans have taken the stance of enhancing healthcare.

“We are the ones responsible for preserving healthcare,” Trump stated.

On Wednesday, Trump provided no clear response when questioned about his stance on renewing the subsidies within the Affordable Care Act, which are scheduled to end by year’s end. Without an extension, health insurance costs are anticipated to increase significantly for millions of Americans.

“All I wish to accomplish is straightforward. I aim to reopen the country, and afterward, we can address that issue,” Trump stated when questioned about his desire to prolong the subsidies.

Trump and Republican officials quickly respond to Schumer’s comment

Trump and Republicans focused on criticizing Democratic Senate Leader Chuck Schumer for his remarks stating that “Every day gets better for us” as the shutdown continues.

Schumer, speaking to Punchbowl News, was addressing the Democratic Party’s stance as the government shutdown persists. He contended that since Republicans hold the majority in both the Senate and the House, they are bearing a larger share of the responsibility for the shutdown.

However, the Republicans swiftly utilized Schumer’s comments against him.

Chuck Schumer stated this morning that each day is improving for them. No, it’s actually deteriorating for them,” Trump said at a Cabinet meeting. “This is an admission that he is acting not to benefit the people but to advance the partisan goals of his party. And I don’t believe he is doing a good job for them.

Who does he mean by us?” asked Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyoming, from the Senate floor. “Not the military who isn’t being paid, not the Border Control that isn’t receiving payment, not the air traffic controllers who aren’t getting paid. Who is ‘us’? He’s playing a game.
