Luminite has revealed that its Alertex speaker is now available in an anti-ligature enclosure, following interest from various children’s care homes.
Alertex is a range of wireless speakers, call points and sounder/beacons designed to issue a clear alert in the event of the LOCKDOWN of premises.
Following Martyn’s Law being passed in Parliament, all public venues with a capacity for 200 or more people will have to demonstrate clear and unambiguous alerts to lockdown, evacuation and invacuation in the event of a terrorist attack.
This includes schools, shopping malls, hospitals, museums, leisure centres, hotels, theatres and more.
According to reports, the legislation will affect 280,000 venues by 2027.
According to Luminite, children’s homes will also be affected and because those sites and some schools require anti-ligature measures to be in place, they wanted to work on a solution.
The Alertex range has been designed to offer a lockdown solution to these spaces.
A ‘ligature’ refers to a method of self-harm involving tying a cord, rope or clothing around a neck or other body part. Anti-ligature measures intend to eliminate or reduce points where such a ligature could be attached.
With children’s homes and some schools having to often accommodate to children with complex emotional and behavioural needs, any equipment in the premises must be deemed as safe.
This can include door handles, window fittings and shower heads.
Luminite’s Alertex speakers are wireless and have been designed to be used in a variety of events – not just during a lockdown.
The IP Bridge has been created to allow users to select any number of pre-recorded messages to play.
These messages can be up to 15MB in size, which equates to around 10 messages lasting 20 seconds each, including calming music and safety messages in other languages.
