Essex-based forensic solutions provider SceneSafe has joined Secured by Design (SBD) with their swabbing kit achieving Police Preferred Specification.

Originally developed by the UK Home Office Forensic Science Service to provide a robust, high-quality evidence recovery system, SceneSafe has since evolved into a supplier of forensic solutions.

The company reportedly brings together a number of specialist business functions under one organisation, offering customers a streamlined service without the need for multiple providers.

DNA grade saliva swabbing kit

By combining innovation with frontline expertise, SceneSafe is said to deliver tailored forensic services designed to meet the varied needs of crime scene investigation.

Their SBD-accredited product is the SceneSafe Swabbing Kit, the UK’s only independently certified ISO 18385:2016 forensic DNA grade saliva swabbing kit.

The kit has reportedly been utilised by emergency personnel, delivering a dependable means of evidencing spitting assaults – offences classified as criminal under UK law.

The kit includes:

• 2 x Forensic DNA Grade Swabs, one for use and one retained as control
• Evidence bag
• Gloves
• Instructions for use

The swabs, gloves and evidence bags supplied are reportedly the same as those used by police forces across the UK.

By making the kits available beyond policing, SceneSafe is said to support a wide range of frontline workers who may be at risk of spitting assaults, including local government enforcement staff, housing officers, retail and security staff, public transport drivers and conductors, parking enforcement officers and PCSOs.
