West Midlands based company UK Security Doors have renewed their membership with Secured by Design, the official police security initiative.

From its West Bromwich base, UK Security Doors design, manufacture and install bespoke aluminium doors, windows, and curtain walls for clients across the whole of the UK.

The company produces two basic ranges, both of which can be customised with a wide variety of designs, styles, hardware, and colour, giving customers numerous configurations to choose from.

UK Security Doors have a number of Secured by Design accredited products across both their Signature and ThermSecure ranges.

The Signature range is a patented system profile, designed and applied specifically to the social housing market.

The range features prominently in refurbishment of buildings, including healthcare facilities (NHS trusts), education facilities and office blocks.

The ThermSecure range is utilised for any construction required to meet new-build building regulations and includes any building with thermal properties such as schools, retirement homes and heated communal areas.

The combination of ThermSecure and Secured by Design accredited is fairly unique within the door manufacturing industry, making UK Security Doors a market leader in the manufacture of doors suitable for both refurbishment projects and new builds.

For both the Signature and ThermSecure ranges, there are two steps to Secured by Design certification.

Doors must first meet a basic level PAS24 and then enhanced security features, required by law for new builds, help the profiles to achieve STS202 BR2 with a higher level of enhanced security.

At this level, the doors are subjected to more brutal and sustained testing to ensure they meet the level of security and safety required for social housing, council buildings, housing associations, offices, and other locations particularly subject to high levels of vandalism.

Jason Haycock, Sales and Contracts Manager for UK Security Doors, said: “We are delighted to have renewed our Secured by Design membership.

“As a company, we have a real dedication to our clients to provide them with market leading service and quality.

“We listen to the real-world issues that Contracts Managers, Asset/Maintenance Managers and Quantity Surveyors are experiencing and apply them to our range, which has led us to producing one of the most comprehensive scopes for aluminium security doors in the UK.”
Ruari Robertson, Secured by Design, commented: “I am thrilled that UK Security Doors have renewed their valued membership for another three years.

“I look forward to working with them during this time to further enhance our relationship.”

Secured by Design (SBD) is the official police security initiative that is owned by the UK Police Service with the specific aim to reduce crime and help people live more safely.

SBD seek to improve the physical security of buildings and the surrounding area using products such as doors, windows, locks and walling systems, along with fencing systems, that meet the SBD Police Preferred Specification security requirements.

In addition, SBD work closely with builders, developers, local authorities and registered housing associations to incorporate the police crime prevention standards into developments from initial concept and design, through to construction and completion.

Police forces throughout the UK have specially trained Designing Out Crime Officers (DOCOs) who offer police designing out crime and SBD advice free of charge. Over one million homes have been built to SBD standards with reductions in crime of up to 87%.

SBD have many partner organisations, ranging from the Home Office, Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities through to local authorities, housing associations, developers and manufacturers and work closely with standards and certification bodies.

SBD developed a product based accreditation scheme over 20 years ago – the Police Preferred Specification, which provides a recognised standard for all security products that can deter and reduce crime.

SBD works with manufacturers and standards authorities to ensure that security standards are current and updated to keep pace with emerging crime trends.

There are currently many hundreds of companies producing thousands of attack resistant crime prevention products, across over 30 different crime categories, which have achieved Police Preferred Specification.

SBD is the only way for companies to obtain police recognition for security-related products in the UK.
