Security Institute appoints Frank Cannon Deputy Chair effective 24 July.

The Security Institute has announced that from the 24 July 2023 Frank Cannon BSc (Hons), CSyP, CPP, FSyI will be appointed Deputy Chair, to work alongside Julie Nel MA, MSyI and his fellow Board Directors.

Frank joined the Institute on 1 January 2008, when it merged with the International Institute of Security to which he was elected as Diplomate of the IISec in 2005.

Security Institute says Frank “ideally suited”

Blending his academic knowledge with his operational experience, the Security Institute said “Frank is ideally suited to help write the next chapter of The SyI journal, by delivering a proportionate blend of governance, innovation, and humour.”

Commenting on his appointment, Frank said, “For the Chair to consider me as a viable understudy and trust me to represent our wonderful Institute at events that she is unable to attend, is both an honour and a privilege.”

Frank continued: “When standing for election to be a director, I pledged to work tirelessly to promote the merits of the Institute to other industries and collaborate with my peers to create a meaningful experience for our membership; the journey has started and I’m so privileged to work with some fantastic people to deliver.”

Frank Cannon is an independent consultant through his own company called Cannon Asset Protection Limited.

Cannon created “The CAP Way” a behavioural based security programme to help establish good security governance.  It includes a series of processes that he has used during his 40-year career in the armed forces and commercial security environments.

Cannon’s three focus areas are: 

1. Creating and communicating protective-security governance that increase the certainty of business success.
2. Creating and Delivering Behavioural-Based Security (BBS) awareness programmes to encourage a security culture within organisations.
3. Collaborating with the UK Construction Industry to raise the value of protective-security programmes to reduce the negative impact of crime.
